Duke University Art, Gifts and Original Paintings

Duke University

My first steps on this magnificent campus to create art simply left me breathless. From the majestic gardens to the spires of Duke Chapel this has to one of the most architecturally beautiful campuses in the country.

Duke University is a private coeducational university in Durham, North Carolina. Its students come from all 50 state and 117 countries. It’s medical, law and business schools are ranked as some of the finest in the United States. Competing in the Atlantic Coast Conference makes its athletic program one of the nation’s elite with its men’s basketball team winning three national titles.

The Gothic architecture of Duke Chapel clearly sets it apart from the ordinary. In painting the Winter Glory, this magnificent cathedral was a shining jewel in the midst of a December snowfall, now available in fine art print reproductions along with a variety of handsome gift items such as miniature framed prints, cherry keepsake boxes and note cards. I’ll never forget appreciating the fact that creating this chapel was an art in itself. Constructed from 1930 to 1932, the Chapel seats about 1,800 people and stands 210 feet tall, making it one of the tallest buildings in Durham County. It is built in the English Gothic style, characterized by its large stones, pointed arches, and ribbed vaults. It also has a 50-bell carillon and three pipe organs, one with 5,033 pipes and another with 6,900 pipes!

The Duke Gardens painting is a feast for the senses. The Sarah P. Duke Gardens consist of approximately 55 acres of landscaped and wooded areas at Duke University. There are five miles of allées, walks, and pathways throughout the gardens. The gardens are divided into four parts, the Historic Core, the H.L Blomquist Garden of Native Plants, the Culberson Asiatic Arboretum and the Page White Garden. The gardens are a memorial to Sarah P. Duke, wife of Benjamin N. Duke, one of Duke University's benefactors. My art rendition captures the garden in full flora with a play of shadows presenting just a hint of shade. This painting of the Sarah P. Duke Gardens at Duke University is available in fine art print reproductions along with a variety of handsome gift items such as miniature framed prints, cherry keepsake boxes and note cards.
