Nothing is more disheartening than to be without a friend. There are a lot of self made people who live by the mantra of picking themselves up by their boot straps. But what happens when things really go south? You lose your job and can’t find another, an illness sets in and you are unable to work, you’re involved in an accident, divorce rips your loved ones from you, or the tides simply wash away everything you possess?

There is a passage from the book of Ecclesiastes that says it well: If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up!
